This seminar will explore the history and current uses of various risk sharing and transfer approaches, outside of standard market insurance, including Reciprocal Insurers, RRG's (Risk Retention Groups), RPG's (risk purchasing groups), Affinity Groups, Fraternal Benefit Societies, Cat Bonds, Self-Insurance, Captives, and Parametric Insurance. Participants will come away with a basic level understanding of when, where, and why (including advantages/disadvantages) these different approaches might be used in a given scenario. This knowledge should enable the student to recognize and identify these approaches as they are encountered in the marketplace.
